My wife
asked me to write about positive things around me and not to bark as television
journalists and editors who are showing only negative happenings in India. As
faithful husband (my friends say I am Bibi ka Gulam) I obeyed her.
Now I am writing that I am lucky. I
and my basic school were lucky that education department posted tens of
children books in English language. On that time my village was not lucky
having English knowing villagers including our teachers. Our school was lucky
for having such intelligent headmaster. As soon as English books reached to
school, my headmaster observed that no villager including a he and another
teacher could read these English books he decided to sell these books to a tea
stall wala. In return, tea stall wala sent Pakodas twice a day for seven days
to the houses of our two teachers. The family members of teachers were lucky
having Pakodas on daily basis for seven days. I was lucky too. I stole two story
books in English while taking from school to tea stall wala. For many years,
those books were lucky to be my properties as I was unable to understand those
stories in English language. Later on my younger brother was lucky to get tea
and Pakoda by selling those books to tea stall wala.
Our hilly village was lucky that we had a kind
hearted Gram sevak. Our hilly village was lucky that Gram Sevak fought for our
hilly village and got sanction from village development department two iron Western
Ploughs weighing more than half a ton each for our hilly village. It was bad
luck of poor Sudama farmer who tried to plough hilly field by one of western
ploughs. His one of old bulls died pulling the iron plough that was stuck deep
in a rocky area of field. Our villagers are not ungrateful to any government. The
same plough is still there stuck in the field of Sudama farmer and is witness that
Lucknow government was taking interest about agricultural development in rural hills
of Garhwal. Since, Gram pradhans are changing every five years and no Gram Pradhan
was ready to keep heavy iron western plough at their courtyards therefore,
another heavy western plough is kept on the road of village entry to show our
thanksgiving attitude that Uttar Pradesh government was conscious for
agriculture development of rural hills of Garhwal.
When Chaudhari Charan Singh Ji was chief
minister of Uttar Pradesh our village was again lucky. Chaudhri ji was very
much concern about animal husbandry development in hills of Garhwal. He dispatched
male buffalos from Merut area to villages of Garhwal. People of Meerut were
lucky that they got money be selling their unwanted male buffalos to Uttar
Pradesh government. Villages of hills of Garhwal were lucky that they got free
the giant male buffalo for breeding purpose that the coming buffalo generation
would be Haryana buffalo generation.
The female buffalos were not lucky
to have such giant male buffalo fellow as their companion. The female buffalos
were scared of such big buffalo and they used to run away just seeing the big
buffalo. Therefore, no body including village chief was ready to keep the buffalo
in village. The Haryanvi buffalo was not lucky or competent enough to walk a
centimeter on the hilly path of forest. Therefore, the gifted buffalo died
after three four months. Our villagers are always grateful for others who help
them. We call Bhains ko Pathar/Buffalo stone where the great buffalo died and
that place is reminder that Uttar Pradesh government was conscious about
developing agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry in hills of Garhwal. Uttar Pradesh government was lucky to have
such villages those still regard the works of government.
There were other purposeful development works
in my village and I shall be posting you about such great works by Uttar
Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments for our lucky village.
