Char Dham means Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamnotri Shrines
‘Brand Uttarakhand’ as religious place existed in the minds of Indians, ruling kings, devotees and common Indians for thousands years. Even the people of today’s Cambodia, Java Sumatra were attracted brand Uttarakhand (though, different names). The main place was Badrikashram that used to attract Indians for centuries. There is mention of Badrkashram in Mahabharata and Kedarkhand in SkandhPuran. Shankarachary (born in Kerala) revised the Badrikashram temple and Kedarnath shrines. The temple priests were designated as Rawal. Same way, Gangotri and Yamnotri (origin of Ganga and Yamuna) were definitely in the minds of Indians (Jamboodweep) centuries back. Ahilya Bai Holkar (1725-1795) the queen of of Malwa kingdom (MP) revived the temples of Char Dham (Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamnotri, Tungnath etc) and donated many articles for these temples
That means from old days Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamnotri, and Tungnath etc were very much famous across India. Now, the need is to revive brand Char Dham as source of branding for base as Uttarakhand as Global brand.
However, due to Land Slides and flood of 2013 has become a hurdle in Uttarakhand branding by Char Dham Pilgrim Tour.
The Uttarakhand Brand stakeholders should draw new branding strategy for Branding Uttarakhand in terms of Char Dham Yatra.
