Garhwali poetry collection ‘ Ek Dabal ‘ by Shanti Prakash ‘Jigyasu’will always remembered in Garhwali Poetry world for perusing New Style ‘Chitga’ . Ek Dabal is second Garhwali poetry collection by Shanti Prakash ‘Jigyasu’. His first poetry collection is ‘As’.
There are 44 customary poems and 173 smaller poems in the present volume. Among free style smaller version of verses, there are 63 four lines poems, 110 two lines verses. The customary poems are also free verses.
Chitga means forceful small drops. Chhitga is used always for awakening the person. In Garhwal, smaller poems had a long history perhaps before the Garhwali language took birth . In Garhwali, smallest version is called Bajuband Kavita and those versions are one of the smallest poems among other languages smallest poems. However, in Bajuband the poem should have fixed poetic style but in Chhitga there is no restriction.
From subjects’ point of view, Jigyasu deals all common types of subject persist in Garhwal in present volume. The main Subjects of poems are -social changes, racism, relationships, responsibilities, corruption, environment, education, migration, unemployment, spirituality, geographical nature, human psychology and many more burning issues. His love for his mother shows in this present volume.
His Chhitga are more important to describe as majorly those are satirical and makes naked the wrongs ones in the last line of all Chhitga. The satires of Chhitga are from mildest ones to sharpest ones. Though, the readers always demand for sharpest effects from smaller poems. No doubt, Jigyasu tries his best for offering sharper effects.
The poet is successful in using various sayings, symbols for getting desired images in the reader’s mind.
The critics will remember the works of Shanti Prakash Jigyasu, in terms of new style, as critics remember Louis Zukofsky, Jack Kerouac, Ashbery, Lesile Scalapina, Robert Frost, Paul Claudel, Guillaume Apollinaire etc who persuaded new style in their language poetries.
