Bhagwati Prasad Joshi had been an important
signature in modern Garhwali story world. His stories used to be published in
various periodicals as Hilans and Garh –Aina . Head Master Hirderam is one of the stories of his first story
collection ‘Ek Dhanga Se Sakshatkar’
head master Hirdairam Harbola was teacher in basic school Haindakhal. Master
was famous for his wooden stick. Master Hirdairam used to talk in Sanskrit with
stick. Hirdairam was famous for disciplining the students and was eager
students get their basic education. Another teacher was Sitab Sing who was maore
interested in sleeping and playing cards.
When one of the students of Hirdairam becomes
inspector of schools, Hirdairam gets promotion because of his disciplinary
methods. The story tells about education system and relationship between teaching
community and society. Through symbolic
(stick) means Joshi shows that discipline is one of the means of teaching.
Since Bhagwati Prasad Joshi was also primary school teacher he portrayed
various inner parts of primary education system in this story.
The characters are as per the need of theme
and plats of story. The language of story is simple and realistic.
