Ku Lagal?’ written by Harish Thapliyal)

There was vibrancy in the field of
Garhwali theatre/ dramas and Garhwali films in nineties in Mumbai. Dinesh Bhardwaj, Balraj Negi ,Kanta Prasad
Garhwali like drama activists were very active in that period.
Harish Thapliyal’s Garhwali drama ’Haul Ku Lagal? was staged in Deena Nath Mangeshkar Hall, vile
Parle, Mumbai in 1987. Kanta Prasad Garhwali directed the drama and Balraj Negi
was in main role. Balraj Negi also staged and directed ‘Jhauda Latu’ a Garhwali
drama at that time too.
The drama ’Haul
Ku Lagal?’ is about the problem of mass migration from rural Garhwal to
various cities of indie. Migration of
young male brought many other problems. One of the problems exists till date
about ploughing. There are no male to plough in villages of Garhwal. When there
is no person to plough, there can’t be agricultural activities. The drama deals
this problem effectively and at the end suggests the solution too.
The drama is relevant still today.
