Ravanlti Apghat Vishayak Lok Geet: Ravanlti Garhwali Sad Folk Song about Accident Death

   Types of accidental or calamity accidental deaths in Uttarakhand rural are follows as-

1-Accidental Death by falling from trees

2-Mishap passing away by Crossing flooded river

3-Accident death by tree falling on person

4-Accidental death by forest fire or house fire

5-Accident death by falling electricity  

6-Accident death by bridge washing away in between

7-Accident death by slipping from hills/river Bridge

8-Accident death by landslides/flood

9-Accident death by wild animal attacks

10-Accident death by eating poisonous herbs

11-Accident death by snake bite

12-Accidetnal death by spikes of animals

13- Accidental death by drowning into river, pond or lake

            There are various sad folk songs pertaining to each accident in each region. The sad traditional songs regarding accidental deaths are mostly regional and usually don’t spread to other regions. In such cases, usually, such distressing, heartbreaking customary folk songs die within short period.

                The following lines are taken from a Ravanlti dialect of Garhwali describing the gloomy scene about death of a pair due to slipping from a river bridge.    

आकस्मिक अपघात मृत्यु का रवांल्टी करुण-दारुण  लोक गीत

फूली जाली कवाईं, फूली जाली कवाईं
न आई बेटी समुन्दरा  न आई भंडारी ज्वाईं।

न आई बेटी समुन्दर न आई भंडारी ज्वाईं।
ले लुवा गाड़ी कूटी,  ले लुवा गाड़ी कूटी,
तेरी बेटी समुन्दरा सांदरा पुलौ दी छूटी।।
ले लुवा गाड़ी कूटी,  ले लुवा गाड़ी कूटी,
तेरी बेटी समुन्दरा सांदरा पुलौ दी छूटी।।

My daughter Samundara and son in law Bhandari did not come to fair.

O sister1 your daughter and son in law are dead by slipping from the bridge.
