Oriental/Asian Jaunpuri (Garhwal) Folk Literature

            Jaunpuri language is an exclusive language of Jaunsar region of Tehri Garhwal, Uttarkashi and Dehradun. The language has exclusivity than Ravanlti, Garhwali, and Jaunsari.

       Indian Government provided women reservation in village councils. It was seen that many women elected as village council chiefs were unable to know anything about working of village council.  The following folk song describes the odd situation of such women as village council chiefs.  The folk song also shows that folk literature creative pay attention on every aspect of society. The folk song shows political and social realism in folk poetry.

गाऊँ गाऊँ  खुलि रई सीटा कि मैइला पौरधाना बौणे
सरदारां चल मेरे साथा कि मई नि जाणी लाई सरकारी बाता
गाँव वालो कौरो मेटिंगा कि पौरधाना बौणलू कूणा
सरदारां मई त अनपढ़ी कि क्या बोइलांदि सरकारौ
गाँव वालो कौरो मेटिंगा कस्तु मई पौरधाना बौणे
तू मेरी आंख्युं की साना ताऊंवा मई पौरधाना बौणे
सरदारां चल मेरे साथा कि मई नि जाणी लाई सरकारी बाता

There would be woman village council members and chief.

Now I am Pradhan (chief) but I am unaware for working.

O society or ex-village council chief! Come with me for attending council meet.

O chief you advice me.
