Akbar was habitual of taking food cooked in Yamuna or Chinav Rivers water. Ganga water was mixed with water used for cooking.
Akbar sent a expedition party for finding the source of Ganga. It is said that the expedition reached to Mansarovar for finding the Ganga source. The expedition team showed Mansarovar as the source of Satlaz and Brahmputra Rivers in their map. The team showed the source of Sarju as Rakshastal in the map.
