Daya Shankar Bhatt ‘Bandi’: A Garhwali (Asian) poet of inspiring Poetries and Social reforms

       Daya Shankar Bhatt was born in Farswari village, Patti- Situansyun of Pauri Garhwal on 14^th October 1905. After taking initial education from Pauri and Dehradun, Dayashankar Bhatt shifted to Lahore. Daya Shankar Bhatt was Hindi teacher in Lahore. There he spent his time in creating literature. He created poems and stage plays in Hindi in support of Freedom Fight and social reforms.  He published a couple few Hindi books but most of other books are unpublished. He shifted to Dehradun and was busy in freedom movement from 1938-1948 and went jail for many occasions. He was one of the prominent social workers of Dehradun.

  Dayashankar Bhatt expired on 3^rd march 1982 in Dehradun.

           Bhatt was also a musician and he created Musical Notes of various Garhwali Folk Songs. The ‘manuscript ‘Divya Sangit’ is a heritage for Garhwali folk song as manuscript is having Musical Notes of Garhwali folk Songs.  “Divya Sangit’ is still unpublished.

        Daya Shankar Bhatt ‘Bandi’ is one of the pioneer Garhwali language poets too who initiated modern Garhwali poetry. The following poem is inspirational and well praised by critics:

उठा  उठा  हे  गढवीर भायूं

रचना - दया शंकर भट्ट 'बंदी ' 

--
उठा उठा हे गढ़वीर भायूं 
कब तैं चुप बणिक रयेला 
' बंदी ' समौ कम इन भि दिखेली 
जय बीरता का डंका बजौंला 
क्वी नी च भाई ! संगी हमारो 
खुटौन अपणा खडु होणु होलो 
'बंदी ' बणी गे हे वीर बैखो 
संसार मा नाम कमौण होलो 
ऐ जा पलेता पक्का कसीक 
गढ़वाळ को लाज बचौं ल 
'बंदी 'भलो प्राण बलि चढ़ौन्ला 
संसार मा राड तुर्री बजौंला
