               Devprayag or Deoprag is situated at Bhagirathi and Alaknanda confluence. There are many folktales about Devprayag and its establishment.

           Mohan Babulkar (Garhwal ki Jivit Vibhutiyan .page 131-139) offers the reference of Kedarkhand of Skandpuran and mentions the Shloka as

      देवप्रयाग प्रकरण

अयोध्य मथुरा काशी द्वारिका सेतुबंधक:। 

कांची गया कुरुक्षेत्रम बद्य्यर्आश्रम एव च।।

गंगा द्वारम् प्रयागश्च माया क्षेत्रम तथैव च।

देवप्रयाग तीर्थं च तीर्थानां तीर्थ मुत्तमम् ।।

 Further , Mohan Babulkar mentions the importance of Dev Prayag citing the ‘shlokas’ of Kedarkhand.

 Babulkar also sopposts that Raghunath Ji Mandir was established by Adi Shankarachary Shri vardachary repaired Raghunath temple as he did of Badrinath temple.  Mohan Babulkar argued that the Arti or Bhog System in Raghunath Ji Temple is same as of Badrinath that is Southern or Nambudiparad Style.

 In Mahadev Temple of Dev Prayag, there is inscription and door stone inscription mentions for separate names of Mathadhipati and Pujari. The names Shankaranand Bharti ,  Krishna Bhatt and of 1495 AD.  The door inscription of Mahadev Temple is of 1610 and Anant Bhatt is carved

  Dr Parth Sharthi Dabral offered details of forty inscriptions of Raghunath Temple and divided into three parts-

1-Brahmi Inscriptions

2-Ornamental Brahmi inscriptions

3-Devnagari inscriptions  

   

 Raghunath Ji temple in Gurkha/Gorkha Rule in Garhwal

          Raper offered situation of Raghunath Temple (Asiatic researches) and Devprayag when he visited Devprayag in 1808.

 There was brass idol of Garud at outside of temple.

 There was black stone idol of Chaturbhuj Ji (four handed) and the lower side was colored by red color. The Chaturbhuj idol is now covered by cloth and showed as Raghunath ot two hand Rama (Dr Dabral).

  Garhwal Kings donated twenty five villages for Raghunath Ji temple. The annual income from villages was from Rs.1000 to 1200. The Gurkha /Gorkha administrators retained villages for Raghunath ji without any change. There were shops of Pandas  (priests) and was huge income through those shops. Pandas used to note down the names of pilgrims. Raper also noted his name on bahi (record or ledger) of a Panda.
