Kurmuri a Garhwali Poetry collection by Om Badhani

               There are three Garhwal. One is rural Garhwal, second is cities of Garhwal region including Dehradun and third is Indian or foreign cities where Garhwalis are scattered. Most of the modern Garhwali literature is written about the subject of rural Garhwal.

         The fundamental issues of Rural Garhwal are limited. Therefore, modern Garhwali literature creators have to repeat the issues in their literature. In this situation the contemporary creative have a couple of alternative in creating Garhwali literature. First is repetition of same old subject with old phrases and lose into sea of non exclusivity which most of present literature creators are following. Second alternate is bring newer subject but the subject are limited as changing n society but those changes are also already being described in other Indian languages. Third alternate is creating different style. However, new style is difficult. Fourth alternative is to create newer types of figure of speeches and phrases.

         The famous Garhwali lyricist and dram creator Om Badhani chooses the last alternate to illustrate the old (already taken by past creators) subjects with newer phrases and figure of speeches for bringing freshness and attracting readers attention.

          There are 70 poems in this poetry collection of Om Badhani. These 70 poems take various issues of rural Garhwal and Garhwalis scattered all over world. There are issues of environment, migrations; ruining of houses built by forefathers of migrated Garhwalis and they are not returning to native place; education; changes in society due to unheard capitalism; disintegration in united family system; compensation issues due to various developmental works in Garhwal; laziness of the society and many more issues. There are universal issues of human being as the love and terrorism. Om Badhani is successful in raising most of the issues of Garhwal and universal human being issues.

 The freshness came into the poetries of Badhani due to newer types of illustration from newer phrases created or described by the learned poet. For example, Badhani compares the laziness of people by a frog that does not leap. Musa re Musa poetry is another example of bring newer phrases in Garhwali poetries by Om Badhani. Famous Hindi poet Liladhar Jagudi describes the poems of Badhani as of Alag Mijaj or exclusive style.

    The poems of Badhani are of prose style but there is marvelous flow in such poetries. The poet is victorious in using imagery and phrases. The tone of poetries makes poems attractive too. Badhani belongs to Uttarkashi. However, Badhani tries his best to use words and dialects of standard Garhwali.

  International critics would appraise Garhwali Poet Om Badhani as they praise Belgian French poets -Albert Ayguesparse, Mere Gevers, Henari Michaux, Albert Mocket, Baron Arther, Serge Delaive, Andre Fontainas, Irene Hamoir.
