Ayedi Khilan/ Shikar Karna or hunting is one of the oldest games of Garhwal and India. Even the God and Goddesses are said to hunt. Lord Shiva has one name Mrigyavyadha that means hunter of deer. According to Mahabharata, Pandu came to Garhwal for hunting.
In old age people used to for hunting/trapping individually or in collective way. Hunting deer families, wild boars, rabbit, porcupines, birds, chickens, were common practice in Garhwal. Many times, people used to make wild boars or deer run for miles. Porcupines are killed by infusing heavy smoke into the burrow of porcupine.
There are /were many methods of killing animals for hunting.
