               The literal meaning of ‘Juth Gich Karan’ is to defile the mouth. When the marriage knot tied or marriage is completed or Sat Fere is completed there is a custom of ‘Juth Karan’ in Garhwal, Kumaon and Haridwar. ‘Juth Gich Karan’ is for bride and groom introducing each other.

  In this custom, the bride and groom are told to sit nearby and first the bride is asked to put ‘Arsa’ or Laddu’ into mouth of groom. The bride would take ‘Arsa’ or Laddu’ near the mouth of groom but immediately groom would take away his mouth and bride becomes unsuccessful in feeding Arsa or Laddu to groom. The same action is repeated for a couple of times and public gets joy by this act. When Bride becomes successful in feeding ‘Arsa’ or Laddu’ to groom, it is the turn of groom to feed ‘Arsa’ or laddu’ to bride. Groom also acts as bride. The public enjoys very much by watching the game of Juth Gich Karan’.
