(Folk Tales /Community from Garhwal Series-118)
                                           Collected by Bhishma Kukreti
It is true that till date Aswal Community, , Kandar /Sal Leaves ( Shorea rubusta) and mustard oil are not allowed entry into Tadkeshwar, Tadkeshwar/Tadashar Temple of Badalpur. There are four five sayings for explaining banning of mustard oil, Aswal community and Kandar /Sal Leaves ( Shorea rubusta) into Tadkeshwar temple.
Dr ranvir Singh Chauhan provides a folk story as under –
Once, by conspiracy, Aswal community wanted to capture Badalpur Rajjagadhi. One of traitor of Badalpur Rajjagadhi met Aswal community. However, Tadkeshwar was calling deity of Badalpur Garh Chieftain. Tadkeshwar was ‘Bolanda Dibta’ for Badalpur region. Tadkeshwar Mahadev used to call people of Badalpur region at the time of distress or bad happenings. Aswal community thought of lessening the power of calling Tadkeshwar Mahadev. For lessening the power of calling, Aswal pasted Haluva, Mustard oil on Shivling of Tadkeshwar temple and put Kandar /Sal leaves on Ling. However, Badalpur people came to know the tactics of Aswal community. From that day, Aswal community, Kandar, Sal leaves and mustard oil are not allowed entry into Tadkeshwar Temple.
