Common Name- Indian Rosewood
Local Name – Shisham
Hindi Name – Shisham
Sanskrit Name – Aguru
Medical uses- Used for Truth brushing and tongue cleaning. In Siddha medicine system, Shisham is used for skin disorder, gonorrhea, boils and stomach disorder, piles. Medicines prepared by Shisham tree parts are also used in improving seminal weakness. Root is used as astringent
As pesticides – extract of fruits are used for killing snails etc.
Furniture, Agriculture Instruments, wood etc.-Furniture and fuel
As per Samarangana Sutradhara, the plant juice is potential for wall plasters
Planted for shading around tea gardens
Fodders for domestic animals

According to Hindu Astrology, Shisham is a tree of Ardrdra Nakshatra and astrologers suggest the person affected by Adrdra Nakshatra for planting Shisham tree or perform rituals.
