Chalda Masu Jagar: An Awakening Ravain Folk Ritual Song related to Masu deity

Jagar Gatha (Folk Ritual Songs) from Ravain Garhwal Region-2

Song collection by late Dr. Jagdish Prasad ‘Jaggu’ Naudiyal
Translation, Interpretation and Transliteration by: Bhishma Kukreti

                                                  What is Jagar?

Most of the researchers define Jagar in the same way except same words.
Stefan Patrik Fiol defines Jagar,” Jagar also called ‘Jagran’ may be defined as a ritual or ‘puja’ in which ‘Devi-Devta’ are awakened through narrative musical performances either metaphysically or physically through the body of the medium. Possession by ‘Devi-Devta’ is not prerequisite for ‘jagar’”. Stefan further says that.” I consider ‘Jagar’ are ceremonies that are organized with the intent to induce possession.”
There are at least five active participants in a ‘Jagar’-
1-Pashwa or the medium on which the ‘devi-devta ’ soul would enter
2-Jagriya –or Guru who will narrate the story and control the ceremony
3-Musicians to accompany Jagriya/Jagari
4-Host
5-Dancers other than Pashwa or audience
