     There were many revers emerging from snow bound Himalayan Mountain.  Mostly, people call them as Ganga. People used to take bath into those reverend rivers on festive occasions as Makar Sankranti, Baishakhi etc. People used to spill Ganga water on human injuries, animal injuries, or on trees for healthy fruits. People used to sure by Ganga kasam. Ganga was called Mother Ganga. People were also afraid of cursing of Ganga.

          River Sources as Sacred Places

    Every river or spring or water source was believed to be sacred place. The sources of Alaknanda, Mandakini, Bhagirathi, Yaunotri, Vishnuganga and Nadakini were called Dham  as– Badrinathdham, Kedarnathdham, Gangotri, Yamunotri, There were five Kedar and five Prayag (Confluence of sacred river and all when Alaknanda meeting other river)
