Mahendra Singh Rana ‘Azad: a Garhwali poet showing anguishes of mass Migration

      Mahendra Singh Rana was born in village Ruishan, Sol Dungari of Badahn, Chamoli Garhwal in 1988. Mahendra rana and Balbir Singh Rana ‘Adig’ published together a Garhwal poetry collection ‘Khuder Dandyali’.

   Though, Mahendra created different subject poems in Garhwali his stress has been on side effects of mass migration from Garhwal. His subjects are philosophy (Dagdiyon ka Gail, Bipda Dholyaron ki );  love (in Ghazals); nature imagery (Kuheri, kab alo chait);pain of separation because of migration (Khamoshi gaun ki),  poverty and hardship of Garhwal life (tutin Chappal); and many more.

       The language dialects of the poems are from north Garhwal but does not make hurdle in understanding by other region’s readers. Simplicity is the characteristics of Mahendra’s verses. He creates poems by free verses and he created Ghazals  too. Mahendra created many satirical poems too.

   Mahendra has successfully uses symbols for creating auditory, visual, smell, taste, and internal emotion imageries in his poems. Mahendra Rana uses figurative Garhwali phrases for speeding the poems.  

  Critic Dr. Yogembar Singh Bartwal and senior journalist Charu Chandra Chandola praised poems by Rana and are ure for Mahendra offering amusing poetries to th Garhwali poetic world.

 धार -चौबाटा 

सैरा -सपाटा 

ढैsपुरी -धुरपाsड़ा 

गौं -गौळा - गोरबटा 

बsणौ   -बुज्याsणा 

 छान्यूं कोल्यणा 

मेरी चखुली जनी माया 

वीं तैं खुज्याणी रे ,

सेरा   गौं 

म्यरा नौ का पिछाड़ी 

बौड्या लगाणी रे ,

रात त सद्यनी आंद पर 

'आजाद ' तैं जनू नि दिखे।
