  By: Bhishma Kukreti
Darshan Singh Bisht is one of the important pillars of modern Garhwali poetry world. Darshan Singh Bisht is one of the Dhad language movement activists. Darshan Bisht already published a Garhwali poetry collection ‘Ker’ and got praises from all corners.
Present Garhwali Lyric collection ‘Kafal’ is second poetry collection by Darshan Bisht.  There are 67 Garhwali lyrics in ‘Kafal’. Narendra Gauniyal wrote forwarding notes for ‘Kafal’ lyic collection.
The subjects of ‘Kafal’ are varied and are for all generations. There are subjects as spirituality or philosophy (Sarswati Vandana, Shradhanjali, ) ; nature illustration ( Kafal, Ful, Faugun maina, Basanti geet); migration and its pain or effects (Ghaur Ai je he, Asgar, Aijava ); culture and social relationship (Hori, Byaula ); love (Kani rai holi, Rakhari, nai jamnai ki band ); patriotism and inspiration (  Uttarakhand Mahima, Vikas ku geet, Baudar, Pukar) and many more subjects. Most of the subjects are of contemporary subjects of present society. There are satirical lyrics and humroustoo as ‘Satgi jaunlu  Deradun’ is satirical lyric and  Paunjya is humorous lyric. The subjects are purely related to Garhwal or humanity and nation (as matma Gandhi).
The language of lyrics is simple and near to standard Garhwali. Darshan does not hesitate for using Hindi, English or Farsi words in creating rhythm for his lyrics.
There are all raptures except abhorrence, rage in the lyrics by Darshan Singh Bisht. Love rapture dominates the lyrics by Bisht in the present volume.
       Darshan uses cleverly all types of symbols (metaphors, sayings, similes, phrases, self-created phrases) for creating visual imagery
Senior poet, story teller and writer Narendra Gauniyal rightly stated that each lyric by Darshan Singh Bisht is a gem of a garland.
