Nanda Devi is popular and effective goddess of North Garhwal (upper Paudi, Chamoli, and Rudrprayag districts of Uttarakhand). There are various regional folk stories, folk songs related to Goddess Nanda Devi.

सात पांच ऋषि वै बाटा पंथ लौ

कवड़यों का देश वै ठाकुर जी को राज

ठाकुर जी होलि सात कन्या

ठाकुरे की होलि , वै झुमकैलो

सात लाड़ी कन्या, वै झुमकैलो

अणब्यवा अणमांगी, वै झुमकैलो

कि होलि अमूस्या, वै झुमकैलो

कि होलि चौदस्या, वै झुमकैलो

कि होलि मूल्या, वै झुमकैलो

कि सतमंगळि, वै झुमकैलो

सात भाई ऋषि वै ठाकुर जी का पास

सबसे बडो होलो ये हेमंत ऋषि

सबसे कणसि होलि वै रैणा दि मैणा

बडो हिमंत ऋषि वै ? घरजंवाई रयो

छैइ भाइ ऋषि वै ऋषि वै रिषासौऊ ऐग्या

 There used to be six sage brothers in Rishasauma.

Hemant sage was the eldest one among them.

 No brother was married.

All go for search of brides.

In their path, they meet Thakur jee the king of Kavdyo , the father of seven daughters.

Six brothers meet Thakur jee for Hemant marrying his youngest daughter Maina.

Thakur jee agreed that Hemant had to be Gharjavain( When the son in law lives in the in law’s house).

All agreed and Hemant weds with Maina.
