1946 - [2007] Lieutenant-Colonel H.H. Swasti Shri 1008 Badrish Charya Prayana Garh-Rajya Mahi Mahendra Dharam, Vaibhav Dharam Rakshah Shiromani Shri 108 Maharaja Manabendra Shah Sahib Bahadur, Maharaja of Tehri Garhwal. b. at Pratap Nagar, Tehri Garhwal, 26th May 1921, second son of Lieutenant-Colonel H.H. Swasti Shri 1008 Badrish Charya Prayana Garh-Rajya Mahi Mahendra Dharam, Vaibhav Dharam Rakshah Shiromani Shri 108 Maharaja Sir Narendra Shah Sahib Bahadur, Maharaja of Tehri Garhwal, KCSI, by his second wife, H.H. Maharani Indumati Devi Sahiba, educ. Daly Coll., Indore, Mayo Coll., Ajmer, Government Coll., Lahore, and ICS Camp, Dehradun, UP. Became Heir Apparent with the title of Shri Shri Shri Shri Shri Tikka Sahib at birth. Succeeded on the abdication of his father, 27th May 1946. Merged his state with the United Provinces, 1st August 1949. The GOI amended the Indian Constitution to remove his position as a "ruler" and his right to receive privy-purse payments, 28th December 1971. MP (Lok Sabha) for Tehri 1957-1971, and 1991-2007. Ambassador to Ireland 1980-1983. Patron Badri-Kedar Shrines, Presdt. Tehri Garhwal Temple Brd. Trustee Maharaja Narendra Shah Trust, Maharaja Kirti Shah Trust, Shree Shree Ma Anandamayee International Centre, etc. Mbr. (1937) and Indian Independence (1948) medals. m. at the Shrigarh Palace, Banswara, 4th February 1937, H.H. Maharani Shri Suraj Kanwar Sahiba, rcvd: Coron. medal (1937), daughter of H.H. Rai Rayan Maharawal Shri Sir Prithvi Singhji Bahadur, Raja of Banswara, KCIE, by his fourth wife, H.H. Shri Jodhpurwala Maharani Shrimati Daulat Kunverba Sahiba, who had one son and four daughters, elder daughter of Colonel Maharaj Shri Bhupal Singhji Sahib Bahadur, of Jodhpur. Hed. from kidney failure, at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi, 5th January 2007, having had issue, one son and three daughters:

  • 1) Maharajkumari Shri Anupama Kumari Deviji Sahiba [Rani Shrimathi Anupama Kumari Sahiba]. b. at the Rajmahal, Narendra Nagar, Tehri Garhwal, 16th February 1938. m. 1963, Maharaj Shri Jai Singhji Sahib of Patta-Sabli (b. at Udai Vilas, Dungarpur, 19thMay 1934), second son of H.H. Rai-i-Rayan, Mahimahendra, Maharajadhiraj Maharawal Shri Sir Lakshman Singhji Sahib Bahadur, Maharawal of Dungarpur, GCIE, KCSI, by hissecond wife, H.H. Rathoji Maharani Shri Manhar Kunwar Ba Sahiba, second daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel H.H. Ponwarji Shri Maharani Nirupama Kumari Sahiba, Maharani of Udaipur]. b. 1941. m. 13th May 1964, H.H. 108 Sri Maharaj Adhiraj Raj Rajeshwar Ravi Kula Bushana-Mahi Mahindra Yavadarya Kula Kamaldhivakara Chattis Rajkul Singar Maharana Shri Mahendra Singh Bahadur, Hindua Suraj, Hindupati, Maharana of Udaipur (b. at Udaipur, 14th February 1941), elder son of Colonel H.H. 108 Sri Maharaj Adhiraj Raj Rajeshwar Ravi Kula Bushana-Mahi Mahindra Yavadarya Kula Kamaldhivakara Chattis Rajkul Singar Maharana Shri Bhagwat Singhji Bahadur Hindua Suraj Hindupati, Maharana of Udaipur, by his wife, H.H. Rathorji Maharani Sri Sushil Kanwarji Sahiba, daughter of Lieutenant-General H.H. Sri Raj Rajeshwar Maharajadhiraj Narendra Maharaja Shiromani Sir Sadul Singhji Bahadur, Maharaja of Bikaner, GCSI, GCIE, CVO, KStJ. She has issue, one son and one daughter - see India (Udaipur).
  • 3) Maharajkumari Shri Swarupa Kumari Deviji Sahiba [H.H. Maharani Shrimati Swarupa Kumari Sahiba, Maharani of Jhalawar]. b. 1943. m. at New Delhi, 19th April 1968, H.H. Dharam Divakar Prajavatsal Maharajadhiraj Maharaj Rana Shri Indrajit Singh Deo Bahadur, Maharaj Rana of Jhalawar (b. at Simla, 12th June 1944; d. at New Delhi, 24th April 2004), elder son of H.H. Dharam Divakar Prajavatsal Maharajadhiraj Maharaj Rana Shri Harish Chandra Deo Bahadur, Maharaj Rana of Jhalawar, by his wife, H.H. Maharani Shrimati Ila Devi, younger daughter of Raja Rana Sir Bhagat Chand Sahib, Raja of Jubbal, KCSI. She had issue, two sons and one daughter - see India (Jhalawar).

Became Heir Apparent with the title of Shri Shri Shri Shri Shri Tikka Sahib at birth. Succeeded on the death of his father as Head of the Royal House of Tehri Garhwal, 5th January 2007. Ascended the gadi at Narendra Nagar Palace, Tehri, 7th January 2007. Formally anointed and installed at a rajbishek ceremony, at Narendra Nagar Palace, Tehri, 16th April 2007. Patron Badri-Kedar Shrines, Presdt. Tehri Garhwal Temple Brd., Trustee Maharaja Narendra Shah and Maharaja Kirti Shah Trusts, Mbr. Delhi Gymkhana Club, etc. m. 1975, H.H. Maharani Shri Mala Rajya Lakshmi Deviji Sahiba (b. at Singha Mahal, Thapathali, Katmandu, 23rd August 1950), youngest daughter of General Supradipta-Manyabara-Nepal-Tara Jyotirmaya-Subikhyat-Tri-Shakti-Patta Suprasidha-Prabala-Gorkha-Dakshina-Bahu The Rt Hon. Arjun Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana, KCVO, sometime Hon. ADC to King Mahendra of Nepal, by his wife, Sri Rani Bindu Devi Rajya Lakshmi, only daughter of KunwarMandhata Pal, of Askote, UP. He has issue, an only daughter:
  • 1) Maharajkumari Shri Kshirya Kumari Deviji Sahiba [Mrs Sameer Arora]. b. at New Delhi, 1976. m. 1999, Sameer Arora.
