Why less numbers of Left writers from Uttarakhand? (Discussions on the occasion of death of Late Vidya sagar Nautiyal )

Discussions on the occasion of death of Vidya sagar Nautiyal

Why less numbers of Left writers from Uttarakhand?
                                         Bhishm Kukreti
Long back, when Dr Shashi Shekhra Nand Naithani (Hindi Dept Head Saint Xavier College, Mumbai) was alive, there was a discussion in a meeting of a social organization –Shailsuman about less numbers of leftist writers from Uttarakhand.
The following points emerged from the discussion
1-No doubt Chhuvachhot /untouchability was very much there in hills of Uttarakhand as was in India, however, the behaviors of upper class towards Shilpkar was not cruel as compared to other parts of India. The reason was/is obvious because, the livelihood (agriculture and other aspects) was completely dependent of Shilpkar and upper caste could not act against them.
1A- Less numbers of deprived class  or  less numbers who were not owner of land
2- The hardness of hills compelled each community to be more cooperative than repulsive.
3-There was no death of any deprived class by winter or summer as each family has house.
4- Every class had ownership on the forest products and in case of food scarcity; any one could get food from forests.
5- Though, water resources were having class division but water was available (though may be far) there and there was least chance for upper cast depriving Shilpkars for water
6- The gap between richest and poorest in any village was not big that rich could exploit the poor as happened in plains of the world.
7-Political Stability was there for thousands of years in both the areas of Uttarakhnad and this stability was also the factor of lest division among classes except Jatiy bhedbhav.
8- Hills of Uttarakhand witnessed only one biggest hill oriented movement that is Dola Palki andolan for forty years and the movement was more for social status than economical causes.
However, it is a fact of life that the first general secretary or president of Communist party of Indian was a Kulin Brahman of Kumaun late- P.C. Joshi
Late Vidya Sagar Nautiyal was from most upper cast a Saryul Brahmin and not from deprived class.
Late Rama Prasad Ghildiyal a leftist wing Hindi fiction writer was from upper caste Brahmin.
Devesh Thakur is supposed to be a leftist Hindi writer is from upper caste Thakur of Kumaun.
Once, Subhash Pant (Dehradun) was included inn left wing Hindi story writer (today, I don’t know) was a Kulin Brahmin by cast.
Suresh Uniyal of Sarikara and later on Nav Bharat times was a left oriented story writer was a Saryul Brahmin.
Once, Dinesh Kukreti was also a left wing writer.
Chandr singh Garhwali became communist leader was from a Thakur class
The above facts provide a direction that the real deprived class of hills of Uttarakhand was not connected to communism movement and if the deprived class was  not connected to left wing it was hard for communist movement to be successful
