The modern Garhwali story ‘Kalyajai Fans’ by Chinmay Sayar deals with two main themes.- emotional problems of parents due to inter caste marriage by Garhwalis and the aloofness of aged  parents in rural Garhwal.  the main question of story is "Should Uttarakhandis oppose Inter caste-marriage? "
Dinwani works in city and marries with non Garhwali girl. His father becomes sad and angry that marriage should be held in own caste. Father of Diwani dies due to emotional shock. Diwani does not visit to village after the death of his father but sends money for his widow mother. His widow mother asks to village person coming from city about her son and grand children but not for her daughter in law. The non Garhwali wife of Diwani is also indifferent to her mother in law and parental village of her husband.
The story subject is definitely contemporary and is the subject of talk of the town. There were opportunities of creating immense tension and twist in the story. However, Chinmay Sayar uses plain style in depicting such much discussed subject among Garhwalis and  Kumaunis in these days. Chinmay Sayar is successful in raising the question of should Garhwali or Kumaunis oppose  inter caste marriages?

  1. Though i have not read the story but i did not support inter caste marriages in rural or urban uttrakhand as structure of garwali society is based on "HATE" for any other caste other then theirs inside uttranchal... they can not tolerate any other tribe or clan or sub caste. in any case they will not cooperate to other people. i do not know what is the reason behind it , may be most of clan or caste or group of peoples are basically outsiders they have migrated from other hilly like china or nepal etc areas long back ago, and they still have that hate instinct unconsciously . i often noted that garwali guy can adjust with any other caste or even religion ( even muslim ) but if he sits next to garwali fellow , then firstly he will ask his caste and will behave accordingly as per answer

so garwali society will forgive any girl or boy marring any boy or girl if they are outsiders and they will not mind their caste or even religion be their any one from chirstian , muslim sikh or any one from across india but will not forgive if they marry girl or boy next to their village who speaks same language eats and like same food , wear same cloths and follow the same traditions...

  2. wao....great rply yar..... I don't knw in which era the gadhwali's are living...
why don't they understand that all the people are same and all have the same color of blood that's red.
when they'll need some help for any kind of reason then they will not see the caste of the person..bt when its time for marriage then they have problems all the time...
I just want to urge for Gadhwalis' that its good to stick with your culture....but discrimination is not goood as u are living in the 21st century...and these all are past gone things...
