Barsuri is a village in Langur Patti, near Dwarikhal and Bhairongarh in Pauri Garhwal (Uttarakhand).
In old age, there was always scarcity of metal vessels especially for big size cooking vessels for cooking food feast. Barsuri was lucky as Barsuri villagers used to get from Chakundi Udyar (Chakundi Cave). Chakundi Udyar is nearby Barsuri. In past the cave opening was wide but now, there is nominal opening
It is said that a fairy living in Chakundi cave was very happy with Barsuri villagers. The Cave Fairy blessed the villagers. She was so pleased that whenever Barsuri villagers needed big vessels for cooking food for feast the Chakundi Udyar Pari (Fairy of Chakundi cave) offered them big vessels. Villagers used to call Pari for different vessels for feast and the Cave Fairy used to place the required vessels outside of the cave. After completion of feast, villager used to return back the vessels duly very cleaned. No villager used to return vessels without proper cleaning the vessels.
One day, a villager needed vessels for his daughter marriage and he called Cave Fairy for vessels. However, Cave Fairy did not respond. He called many times for vessels but Udyar Pari (Cave Fairy) did not respond at all. The villager returned to village and took other villagers with him to the cave. They requested the fairy for vessels but the fairy did not respond. On the contrary, the Cave Fairy closed the cave opening. All villagers were shocked by closing the cave opening. All called the Fairy and asked for knowing her annoyance.
The Udyar Pari (Cave Fairy) answered that last time, when another villager took vessels for marriage party, the villager returned a couple of vessels uncleaned and she stopped offering vessels to Barsuri villagers.
The villagers asked Fairy for forgiving the villager but Udyar Fairy did not forgive and she stopping responding the villagers call from that moment. The Barsuri villagers took vow not to return vessels to the donor without proper cleaning. However, Udyar Pari did not melt by their vows.
Still after centuries, Barsuri villagers curse that villager who returned uncleaned vessels to the Fairy.
