Modern Garhwali poems have various types of subject and poetic forms. There are poets who created poems about social reforms and awakening subjects. Sada Nand Kukreti, Gairola, Chandra Mohan Raturi Kanauji were of initiating era of modern Garhwali poetry. Ghanshyam Raturi followed these poets and Bhajan Singh Singh that poems should be of reforming subject.
Ghanshyam Raturi belongs to Charigar Village; Kesar Patti of Tihri Garhwal, Uttarakhand.

Raturi had been involved in improving the conditions of villages of Garhwal. He is social activist and initiated the Banning Alcohol Consumption, protection of Forests, Improving women conditions of rural areas
He was very good singer too and attracted audience by his melodious songs. His most of the poems are related to awakening subject and reformation subjects.
He published his poetry collection by name of ‘Chola Badal’ and he used to publish his poems in various local papers. International critics appreciate his poetry collection “ Ganga Jamuna k Maiti Bate”

Patrick Murphy et all in ‘Literature of Nature’ (page 320) sate “The first documentation of the use of Chipko in the 1970s is marked in famous poem by “Chipko Poet” Ghanshyam Raturi which calls as -
Embrace our trees
Save them from being felled
Te property of our hills
Save it from being looted
Chipko poetries helped the movement spread all over the hills. "
Vandana Shiva nad Jain etc. also attributed the Chipko poetries by Raturi for Chipko movement being popular in Garhwal.

क़ानून रिशवतखोरि की तौन सणि बतौला

दारु को व्यापार बड़्यूं क्या खौंला क्या लौंला
