Sanskrit Epics by Garhwali Scholars गढवाल में संस्कृत महाकाव्यों की परम्परा
Garhwali scholars created epics in Sanskrit language too. The expert of history of Sanskrit literature Dr. Prem Datt Chamoli (Palam, Makhlogi, Tihri Garhwal, born- 1932) provides the details of epics in Sanskrit created by Garhwali scholars in his famous book, ‘Garhwal ki Sanskrit Sahity ko Den’.
Urbidatt Dangwal (Dang, Shrinagar, Pauri Garhwal, 1868-1936) wrote Sanskrit epic ‘Edwardvansham’. The epic is about the history of Britain from 55th AD to 1903. There are 15 episodes in the epic and have 8832 Shlokas. The poet Urbidtt Dangwal provides the details of main political events of history of Britain.
Pundit Sadanand Dabral (Timli, Dabralsyun, Pauri Garhwal, 1877-1950) wrote a very interesting epic in Sanskrit about the birth of Nar and Narayan of Badrikashram. There is historical detail of Nar Narayan visiting Badrikashram, Krishna, Arjun etc. There are 9 episodes in the epic and 393 poems in the Nar Narayaniy Sanskrit epic.
Kanak Vansham
Pundit Balkrishn Bhatt (Jakhauli, Bhardar, Tihri Garhwal, 1901-111972) wrote Sanskrit epic Kanak Vansham. The epic is about the Garhwali king Kanakpal and his heirs. There are 1784 poems in the epic and is divided into 27 episodes.
Three epics from a small territory of Garhwal, is proof that Garhwal has contributed sizably to Sanskrit literature.
