Garhwali Poet-11

Chinmay Sayar : The poet of philosophy and tenderness
Bhishma kukreti

Surendra Singh Chauhan alias cinmay sayar was born in a remoyte village Andarsaun, Dabari, Bichhala Badalpur, Pauri garhwal on 17 January 1948.
His father name was late Shri Khushhal Singh Chauhan.

He is M.A . in history and diploma in education

His younger life have been very struggle some . He worked as worker in factories of Mumbai (he used to live in menhaden, Jogeshwari east), Faridabad, Delhi and Bokaro for many years. He was not made for urban and non-emotional life . By nature he is simple, rough, straightforward, rural bias, wish to live near nature and rebellion too. This author is witness about his straightforwardness. Once this author had sever conflict with famous and the only one Garhwali language critic Bhagwati Prasad Nautiyal . The author said that Bhagawti Prasad Nautiyal does not know Garhwali at all, he is copycat of Hindi ‘samlochana’ concept and Nautiyal should leave writing in Garhwali. This author provided proof of each word used by B P Nautiyal in eight nine of articles . The author wrote letters about his thinking that Bhagwati Prasad is diluting Garhwali by using Hindi words though for those words Garhwali words were available. The author sent letter to Sayar too. Sayar answered in straight language that “ You Brahmins will make fool of Rajput like and I am not interested in conflict of you both (Brahmins)”. This is the proof of his simplicity and straightforwardness.

He is not afraid of conflict with his fellow. The author had good relation with Chinmaya Sayar through letter communication. Once this author wrote him in satirist mood about using titli (butterfly) instead of potal (butterfly). He criticized the author left and right about author’s ignorance for meaning of potal and titli. For Surendra chauhan alias Chinmay truth is more important than friendship or permanent relationship. Sayar does not believe in mincing the words.

He has very significant place in Garhwali poetry of eighties till date. Sayar might have written more than thousand poems in Garhwali language but financial situation of Garhwali creative does not permit to publish the literature in book forms.

We find two Garhwali language poetry collections of chinmay sayar . Paseen ki Khusboo and ‘Timala Phool’. most of his poems are having complete philosophical touch . His poems are combination of ‘udaseenata’ moksha, nirvan and inner energy. This inner energy with indifference, neutrality, dejection is a speciality of Sayar’s poetry. Chinmaya is only one Garhwali language poet who could create such type of poetry and Bhagawati Prasad Nautiyal rightly says that Chinmaya is one and only one to create such poems and he got specific recognition among all Garhwali language poets of past and present.

timala phhol has 62 poems and all are representative of Chinmay sayar

He uses symbols and images of Garhwal for spreading his wing and uses many proverb in his poems too. Sayar also craetes many his won words to complete his verse as “ darudya, ajkyun, sonaali, hladyan, Nidaleen, rastagir ( Bhagwati prasad Nautiyal, Chitthi patri, July, 1999)

On the whole, the poems of Chinmaya Sayar are full of philosophy, dejection with inner energy, inspirational, many poems create hopelessness too, shows light to the society and individuals .
